One of the great things about training at Boulder Ki Aikido (BKA) is that we are part of a much larger family, made up of thousands of practitioners throughout the world, each doing their part to move the world toward equanimity, compassion and peace. All practice the same positive, life Ki principles, and the self-defense art of Mind Body Unified Aikido.
BKA members who choose to advance through ranks or who become regular Ki Aikido practitioners, are required to have Annual Memberships. Annual Membership fees are in addition to monthly memberships and rank advancement examination costs.
As the name implies, our local and international Annual Memberships are renewed each year. These keep our BKA bonfire burning locally, while maintaining our official US and international affiliations.
About Our Annual Membership Dues
Boulder Ki Aikido Annual Membership fees are used to:
- Cover operating expenses for our small BKA group
- Maintain our connection to our parent Colorado-based Rocky Mountain Ki Society (RMKS) organization in Westminster.
Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido Kai (SSTAK) Annual Membership fees are mandatory for affiliation with our international umbrella organization in Japan. This certification is important for Boulder Ki Aikido to:
- Maintain an authentic and direct connection to our original lineage
- Be recognized as part of the international Mind Body Unified Aikido body, headquartered in Japan
- Be kept current with visits from upper level Sensei
- Keep up to date with ongoing developments in Ki Aikido
- Enable attendance of national or international seminars with high-ranking SSTAK Sensei.
- Compile and maintain worldwide registration and membership information by SSTAK
- Organize, certify and maintain records of Rank Advancement Examinations by SSTAK
- Support our USA-based representative body, Midland Ki Federation (MKF), which organizes hundreds of memberships and communications across more than 25 dojos within MKF.
Cost of Annual Membership Dues
Boulder Ki Aikido Annual Membership Dues
- Adult BKA ONLY Annual Dues (ages 13+) – $35 each year for all adults and children age 13 or more
- Child BKA ONLY Annual Dues (5B Kyu or less) – $15 for children age 12 or less, before reaching 5th Kyu.
Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido Kai (SSTAK) Annual Membership Dues
SSTAK dues include the BKA Annual Membership amounts listed above, and are as follows:
- 1st year — FULL Adult BKA + Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido Kai ANNUAL DUES (Membership Card)
- Required as students pass 5th Kyu certification (5A for children)
- Affiliate with the worldwide Mind Body Unified Aikido headquarters in Japan
- Receive a SSTAK membership card with a unique number
- $95 ($47.50 charged on Jan. 31; $47.50 charged on Jul. 31)
- 2nd Year and after — FULL Adult BKA + Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido Kai ANNUAL DUES (Membership Renewal)
- Required annually after the first fiscal year of registration above
- $95 ($47.50 charged on Jan. 31; $47.50 charged on Jul.31)
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Annual Memberships are counted for the actual year that a member practices, regardless of what month the student begins. For example, Suzy begins practicing in February 2019, while Joe starts practicing in September 2019. They both prepare and pass their Rank Advancement exams in 2019. They both are required to register for either the BKA Annual membership or their 1st Year (2019) SSTAK Membership Card, depending on their age and Ki & Aikido level. Annual Membership dues are in addition to the cost of rank advancement examinations and monthly memberships.
How do I pay these Annual Membership dues?
Please log in to the Boulder Ki Aikido Zen Planner Portal to access your account.

Enter the email address you used to sign up with BKA. If you forgot or do not know your password, there is a “Forgot Your Password” link you can use on the Login screen to reset your password.
Once you are logged in to the Zen Planner platform, you will see a page similar to the one below.
How to Pay Your Bill
- Click on the “My Profile” link on the navigation bar on the left side of the screen.
- Scroll down to the blue hyperlink “Pay My Bills” and then “Add Account,”
Input your preferred billing information. We accept all major credit cards (Visa, MC, Discover and AMEX) as well as Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT’s). The credit card or EFT bank account information you provide will become your default payment method for your monthly membership at {SchoolName}. - You may also want to take the time to update your profile by clicking on the left menu bar “My Profile” then “Edit Profile,” including your current address, phone numbers and email account.
